{Garden} Blueberry Bushes

Our blueberry bushes are growing!!!

Below is the raised bed we made last year (and a Nate photo bomb, kinda). We started with the two blueberry bushes (one small, one large, two different varieties but don't ask me what kind) and then added some flowers. The flowers have already bloomed and gone away, but now we've added six strawberry plants in hopes of some goodies this summer. Or maybe next year, you never know!

{Garden} Butterfly Bush

So until a couple of days ago, I thought our miniature butterfly bush was dead. Luckily, on the day I was going to rip it out, I checked under some dead leaves and mulch and much to my surprise, it had growth on it!!

Now I don't need to worry about replacing it and can dream of the day it looks like the below picture again!

Are you working in your garden? Do you have a garden?

Now that Lily's Garden is pretty much done, minus a few tweaks, I'll be moving onto our backyard finally. It's a hot mess of a semi-removed tree (all but the stump), a bunch of weeds, some grass, dog paths and holes bigger than me thanks to a 100 pound dog who wants to dig to China.

Happy Easter!

I hope everyone had a nice Easter!

Lily and I were off work/school Thursday, Friday and today. She's been hanging out with her friends at daycare (Nate too) so I've had some time off around the house. Thursday and Friday were a mix of relaxing, working, shopping and getting ready for Easter. Luckily I finished our taxes too so that's nice!

As for Easter, we had a great family lunch with my parents, Doug's parents, and my aunt and uncle. The littles (just my two) got some presents and had a small egg hunt in our Lily's Garden. My parents gave Nate a water table (which will definitely be put to use by both kiddos!) and Lily got Ariel's undersea castle from Legos. She loves the Disney Princess Lego castles and has almost all of their sets.

Family - there are more photos on Facebook if you haven't seen them already.

I didn't get much done on house jobs as I'd like due to some crummy weather, but I did get a few new plants purchased and planted. Nothing major, but some pot fillers basically and one white Bleeding Heart. I just love them!! More plants will be purchased next month before Lily's birthday. There's one spot (to the right behind Nate in the photo) that I always plant Gerbera Daisies. I'll probably do that again this year as Lily likes to pick out some colors. A few pots need some color too as I moved a few around. Luckily we get off a week or so before her actual birthday, giving me time to get the garden looking good!!

{Back Porch} Makeover Stage 1

Our little bungalow has a sad little back porch. Before kids, this place didn't look too bad and I actually bought a nice patio set for this area. It's since been relocated and this area became a catch-all for all things ugly, messy, and not really needed. Extra cords, wood trim from Lily's bedroom remodel, outdoor things (pots, grill accessories), etc all gather here.

I, for one, was sick of it. I go through this room daily because its the way the dogs get outside. In the photo below, the kitchen door is to the right (you can kind of see the threshold) and the outside door is behind me.

So, I cleaned it up a couple weeks ago. It started when I started cleaning out the pantry and removed one of the three shelving units (black, seen below). It got relocated to the porch for the time being to hold the crap that needs to find a new home. I then moved all the boards in hopes of using them for future projects and my parents took the old table. It's a great table, but we weren't using it and they could. Plus it was theirs to begin with, so it went to their house for their basement living room.

In the photo above, that little wood storage cabinet is on its way out. I thought of using it as a potting bench (it was maybe $3) but I don't use it and it's falling apart.

So… the plans…

1. Remove everything and find proper homes for stuff

2. Clean

3. Paint the walls (they're brick on one side that are already painted, so I'll repaint it white) and ceiling (it's bead board).

3. Paint the floor. It'll eventually be the same color (or so I plan) as the shed in our back yard and the front porch. They all need it!!!

4. Furniture - I'll move the yellow patio chairs and table here, along with the black and white rug we already have.

5. I'll keep the black shelves and find baskets for them to hold the kids' toys and outdoor things. Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, helmets, balls, etc.

6. Possibly paint the kitchen door leading out here. It's chipped white paint and is ugly. I'd love a teal color for fun!

I really hope this'll be one of the first projects I'll work on come Summer. Lily's birthday in late May will help me get my butt in gear on it. It'll at least be cleaned out more before then!!

{Life Lately} Spring Time Chaos

We live in Missouri. The weather will be in the 70's one day and then snow the next. We've had some beautiful days already, and then snow came one morning. By the same day's afternoon, it was over 50 degrees. Luckily my little pansies are doing just fine… especially after the rain we've had lately!

There are a lot of bloggers out there that do organizational posts. I would like to do that but with Nate, the Tornado (or TorNato as we're calling him), organization isn't our problem.

And while the weather is good, we're enjoying a new outdoor activity… Lily's playing softball!!!

Life is crazy busy but luckily I'm able to capture some good photos as we go along.

As for the house, gardens, etc… stay tuned! I have big plans for this summer if the weather will cooperate!
